JESUS
This is where it all begins.
Jesus was a man who claimed to be God. Think on that for a minute. He had no empire, no army, and no wealth to call his own. He was born in an insignificant place to an insignificant people, and was executed because of the outrageous claims he made about himself. The crowds that followed him in the beginning were the same as those who called for his crucifixion at the end. Even his closest disciples abandoned him after his arrest. He died a humiliating death being mocked and scorned by all around him.
2,000 years later, Jesus remains the most controversial figure in all of human history. Hundreds of millions regard him as the Savior of all mankind, while hundreds of millions more consider him a wise prophet, a good teacher, and an example of humanitarianism and charity that few can equal. History itself is divided by his birth. How does that happen? How does an insignificant and apparently mentally unstable carpenter overshadowed by perhaps the greatest empire in all of history (Rome), go from being killed as a heretic to becoming the single greatest name in all the world? In a word...resurrection.
At Mosaic Birmingham, we believe that Jesus is exactly who he said he was. We believe that Jesus is God. We believe that three days after his crucifixion the most amazing and monumental event in time and space occurred as he physically and bodily arose from the dead. Because of this, everything we do is all about Jesus. We understand this can be difficult to grasp, and that many come from backgrounds or traditions completely at odds with this. We hope that whatever you make of this, you'll find Mosaic to be a place where you can ask questions, wrestle with doubts, and walk alongside others in community as God works through the Holy Spirit to teach us the truth about his Son, Jesus, the Christ.
Nicene CREED
We believe in one God,
the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made,
of one Being with the Father.
Through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation
he came down from heaven:
by the power of the Holy Spirit
he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary,
and was made man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again
in accordance with the Scriptures;
he ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,
and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son.
With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified.
He has spoken through the Prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come. Amen.

CorE CONVICTIONS
Jesus Christ is the only hope for a lost and broken world.
The Bible is God’s authoritative word to us.
The local church is God’s agent for redemptive change.
Every follower of Christ is called and commissioned by God to serve and help love those without faith journey back to God through Christ.
Our dream for Birmingham is that God’s Kingdom would be made manifest in the here and now. The Church empowered by the Spirit is being ushered into an intimate knowledge of God, through this we are transformed by the revelation of how wide and long and high and deep the Love of Christ is for us. And then our transformed lives begin to transform the community around us. … This is seeing the Kingdom come in Birmingham as it is in Heaven.
NAMESAKE
We are a community of followers of Jesus Christ, We long to be a household of faith, centered on Jesus. The name of our community comes from the diversity of our members and from the symbolism of a broken and fragmented humanity which can become a work of beauty under the artful hands of God as we move towards Jesus by the power of the spirit.
We welcome people from all walks of life, we do not want to be a community defined by the boundaries of who is in an out, but regardless of where one is in their spiritual journey we want to journey towards Jesus together.
